In this feedlot trial conducted during the summer in Nebraska, dry matter intake showed very little variation — approximately one pound — despite temperatures ranging from 80°F to 112°F. This indicates strong intake stability under heat load, which supported continued gain and overall feeding performance.
In the Southwest heat wave of 2017, dairies feeding 454 reported no significant decline in dry matter intake, and milk production remained constant during extreme heat conditions above 120°F.
